Cees and Jo Bakker were among the first clients. During a visit to the Second Home Fair – some 13 years ago – they came across Portula. Cees: “We were there because of a building project in Canada, but that project turned out to involve too many obstacles. Portula explained to us about building and living in Norway. There, we could find exactly what we had in mind”.
Space and rugged nature
"In the Netherlands everything is demarcated. Vacation homes are stacked hut by hut and at parks you see fences everywhere. We were looking for space, freedom and rugged nature. All this combined with forests, lakes and mountains so there is plenty to do outside in both summer and winter, like skiing and boating."
And so at the time, Cees, Jo and Portula decided to travel to Norway together to explore the area. "In a few days we visited several locations in Telemark. The choice fell on Vrådal. The nature there is magnificent; lots of mountains and a beautiful lake. We bought a plot there and Portula guided us in that process."
Dream spot
"Portula managed to build our dream home in Norway. At the time, it was a bit of pioneering for all of us. But Portula has done an excellent job for us. The confidence they gave us, is really great. And good deeds will not be forgotten, which is why we kept in touch with Portula all those years.”
Return through rental
“Our house is on Eidsto in Vrådal. The advantage of this cabin site is that it is at walking distance from the village. We sometimes go there up to three times per year. Also our children love to go there. The rest of the year we rent it out, for some 20 weeks. A property in Norway is a good investment for us. Over the past few years, we have rented out the house via different booking websites. When doing this, we had to see to key transfer and cleaning remotely, which was a bit of a hassle. But now we have found a solution for that!”
Fjord Rentals takes things off your hands
Since recently, Cees and Jo have been renting out their holiday property via Fjord Rentals, a subsidiary of Portula. “The great advantage is that Portula takes care of everything for us: from the reservation to the key transfer and the cleaning. All we need to do is indicate during which period we (and our children) wish to stay in the property. During the rest of the year, Portula will ensure that the property is rented out. This is very convenient for us!”
